Getting paid

Stripe isn’t available in my country. How do I get paid?

The problem“I have customers ready to pay by card, but Stripe won’t let me open an account where I live.”

Sell through a Merchant of Record. It is the legal seller of your product, so it takes the card payment, handles the tax and pays you out to your bank or wallet, and Stripe never needs to support your country. Merchants of Record include Paddle, Lemon Squeezy, Polar, Creem, Dodo Payments and AgentaOS; before you pick one, check that it pays out to your country, not just that it accepts you. The other legal routes are opening a company abroad or invoicing clients by bank transfer.

First year, selling €2,000 a month (€50 average, half the buyers abroad, subscriptions). Your time (setup, invoicing, tax and bookkeeping each month) valued at €30 an hour. Sources: each provider’s pricing page; company and accountant costs from Stripe Atlas, the State of Delaware, e-resident.gov.ee and enty.io, as on our cost calculator. Existing company: no setup costs; time covers setting up Stripe, Billing and Tax and about 3 hours a month of reconciling payouts, invoices, disputes and tax returns (our estimate).

All-in, the first year costs about €2,010 with AgentaOS. With Stripe it is about €3,066 if you already have a company, and €5,957 to €6,289 if you open one abroad. Stripe’s card fees are lower; tax filing abroad, subscription billing, the company and accountant, and the hours you spend running payments every month are what make the difference.

Step by step

How do I start this week?

  1. Check your country in the country guides: how payouts reach you and what they cost.
  2. Pick a Merchant of Record that pays out there and accepts what you sell. Paddle and Lemon Squeezy do not take services.
  3. Create your product with a one-time or monthly price and share the checkout link.
  4. Open a EUR or USD account at your bank for payouts, or use a stablecoin wallet where banks can’t receive.
Common mistakes

What should I avoid?

  • Opening Stripe in a country you don’t live inStripe checks the ID, address and bank account, and the account country can’t be changed later. Why it gets closed.
  • Buying a “verified Stripe account”Sold on LinkedIn and Telegram. Your money sits in someone else’s account.
  • Reading a platform payout as Stripe accessBandcamp or X can pay you through Stripe; that does not let you sell your own product.
